Today I have yet another apartment to visit. I've already seen a hundred, all soulless and samey…

The front door, with its wavy gold handles, is ajar…

I enter on tiptoe and bump into a dapper White Rabbit, who waves his pocket-watch under my nose and shouts out hurriedly:

‘Going to be late, going to be late, no time to say hello!’

This discourteous character is as good as his word: he throws me a bunch of keys and skedaddles. What madness have I let myself in for?

Even so, I go on in. I'm not going to be put off by a badly brought-up rabbit…

I sit down on a curious orange chair next to a lacquered wooden table. An immaculately white openwork bowl is brimming with dainty biscuits, each with the words ‘Eat me!’ on them.

Sounds good! I pick one up and take a bite. The crunchy caramel melts on the tongue. I'm melting too! I’m shrinking!

Now I’m tiny – lost in (what seems to me) this colossal lounge…

I scramble up into the leather armchair. A fire is burning, glowing warmly in the hearth…

The wintry smell makes me feel giddy. I slide myself across the smooth table with its Asian geometric design…

I climb up the plain, symmetrical bookcase, brushing against the beehive wall – such subtle detail, an unexpected feeling…

The shelves are crammed with translucent bottles. I come closer. A label reads ‘Drink me!’

I hesitate. Can anything worse happen?

I return to my normal size as if by magic!

I decide to pursue my explorations of this enchanted world…
